Just had my first v4 downgrade, AKL - SYD v4 > v2. Around 2 days ago, randomly 4 new seats became available when the rest of the cabin was basically full. As far as I am aware, they never actually sold luxe on the flight as I booked pretty far out and all 4 luxe seats were never available for purchase. Welp!
This is not a great use of space having 4 luxe seats fly out empty instead of extracting RU's, APD or cash out of customers. Actually I can't confirm they flew out empty just that they weren't available for purchase as per your words.
I had the choice of a 777 day to fly or a refurb and of course I chose the refurb. Of course I'm well aware there could be a swap
But I put in for an upgrade to J which was approved hours later. Keen to pay for luxe but I really really want to try the joe blogs business seat so am staying put. Will see if I end up with a swap! Then I've just got the exit row in economy to fly. Not looking forward to that.
