Probably. Widebodies aren't going away on the EWR transcons. The current EWR-LAX/SFO 757 schedule, plus winter BOS-LAX/SFO, plus a prospective ~15x JFK-LAX/SFO schedule would occupy about 30 or so frames of flying, leaving another 10 to be allocated elsewhere. This does not count deploying some XLRs on transcon routes between international flights (50 on order).
AA has 15 A321T for JFK (as well as a few outliers like SNA and BOS). That would be something if UA is going to dedicated 15x to JFK, on top of all the capacity that it has out of EWR.
