Review Mercure Tokyo Hibiya

Mercure Tokyo Hibiya

I had a very good 5-night business stay at this very recently opened Mercure. It is located near Ginza, 200m from Shimbashi JR train & metro station so the hotel is very easily reachable by public transportation. When staying with Accor in Tokyo, I usually stay at Pullman Tamachi, but it was too expensive this time and this new Mercure looked nice, so I decided to give it a try.

I was nicely welcomed as a Diamond guest. I booked a Superior/King. Hotel was fully booked. I had a “kind of” upgrade as they included Privilege amenities. It is the same room with a Nespresso machine on top. The only real higher room category in this hotel is a Suite but there are likely just a few and, again, the hotel was full. I had the nice surprise to discover at check-in that there was a lounge available (I didn’t pay attention when I booked).

Lobby

Room

On the positive side, rooms are well equipped (kettle, Nespresso, slippers, night robes, bathtub), sound proofing is very good and bed is comfortable. However, on the negative side, rooms are really small (22 m2). You’ll tell me that it’s often the case in Japan and this is true, but there is absolutely nowhere to put your clothes and your suitcase. There are just a few hangers in the entrance but no closet or drawers. You need to leave everything in the suitcase, but there is nowhere to put it. I managed to place it along the window, but that was far from being ideal. I was by myself, so it was OK, but if you are 2 in the room with one suitcase each, it’s not practical at all. This is my only “negative” comment about the hotel, because otherwise all the rest was OK.

Welcome amenity was a bottle of lemonade and some Japanese snacks

Restaurant/Bar

Located at level -1, but it has some external view and even some outdoor seating when weather is permitting it. Free Diamond breakfast was well honored. There is a very decent buffet and you can order one of the dish on the menu below.

For improvement : there is only one coffee machine, so the line can be long in the morning.

This is where you can use the drink voucher and you can choose anything on the menu pages displayed below.

Lounge

As said before, this was a nice surprise. Located on the 3rd floor, the lounge is rather large and was always very quiet and relaxing. Happy hour is from 17 to 20:00. For alcoholic drinks, you have several wines, including sparkling as well as some hard liquors including Sake and Japanese whisky. There was a nice selection of cold items to eat. The only warm option was some pieces of pizza. Lounge is open all day from 7 to 21:00.

Overall, a good hotel with a good club lounge, especially for a Mercure. Only noticeable downside is the room size and the lack of storage place for clothes. I would return without hesitation.
