I'd be careful with mixing different ticket types. For example, regarding changes (free or not) it is always the least flexible ticket of the booking, that decides how every ticket in your booking will "behave" (so if you combine a light and a flex ticket, you end up paying the change fee, even if you only want to change the flex ticket, which shouldn't impose any change fees!).
How it works regarding same-day changes, I can't say, but don't be surprized if it is denied. There might have been a good chance for you to be able to use the same-day change benefit if the return flight was in comfort flex. Since you'd have already flown the outbound leg by then, it would probably no longer affect your booking. But since you've got your ticket types the other way around, it could go either way.

Good to know though, that I absolutely still need to press customer service to get the ticketing department to re-issue my other two tickets, which I upgraded also on September 28th and for which I still haven't gotten the new ticket number, despite the fact, that for both of these I have already received an "upgrade confirmation" e-mail (which I hadn't received for the other ticket I mentioned above).
