As one who has seen next to nothing in appreciable diamond benefits for the better part of a decade now, yawn. I cannot tell you the last time I actually got a room upgrade much less having my status recognized at check-in beyond a simple thank you for being a diamond blah blah. About the only useful perk for me is premium internet and the 2 free bottles of water. The snack is hit or miss. Granted all this is in the US. Status is so watered down across the board. I forget where I was but an airport HGI had a board next to the front desk saying they had 47 diamonds staying with them that night. 47!
But as an almost lifetime diamond, I'm not sure I even care at this point. I started my Hilton relationship back in 1999 when they bought Promus and all my Hampton stays around Kansas suddenly started counting toward something. For the next 15 years or so Diamond was a big deal when and where I traveled. Very curious how the perks change across the board and if there will be a further devaluation of points.
