We ended up staying at both: Ritz-Carlton for one night upon arrival in Chile, before flying out to Atacama the next day; Mandarin Oriental for four nights a week later. I liked both very much, but I would give the edge to the MO for the expansive city/mountain views from the rooms and the lovely grounds. RC was more sedate; MO attracted more families with young children, it seemed. Food and beverage options were great at both. RC has a nice indoor rooftop pool; MO has a larger, seasonal outdoor pool.

We also went to the Singular for cocktails and light bites one afternoon. It's also lovely, but I wasn't crazy about the location. (The Singular in Patagonia, however, is *extraordinary*!)
