Also, isn't Marriott supposed to rebook you into another nearby Marriott property free of charge. The email I received from Sonder is very vague on that telling me that Marriott will be in touch or to reach out to Marriott. When I called Marriott after waiting on hold for the better part of 45 minutes, I was told that I would be issued a refund within the next 30 days and that's the end of it. That seems like one hell of a dropped ball on the part of Marriott. On the other hand, they did mention that this is all new news for them and that things might change within the next few days.

Any ideas?

I was told something similar (reservation will be cancelled in 1-2 days and the refund received in up to 30 days) but also said that they are focusing right now on cancelling reservations and finding alternatives, not on compensation.
I imagine they have to work out what the rules will be, e.g., how much compensation if you don't make an alternative booking with Marriott, if you do whether you will be made whole or just some of the difference covered, whether to make compensation cash vs points, whether / how much more to offer more if you escalate / mention contacting a state AG for resolution, etc.
I doubt anyone is empowered right now to do anything right now. I would expect / hope that people would in a few days.
