Is the amount of elite points earned with OW partner airlines adjusted for various fare buckets, or is it just a flat rate? The page for each partner airline shows fare buckets and % earnings for Enrich points, but doesn't seem to suggest this applies to Elite points.
I'll be living between Thailand and the UK from next year and I'm currently weighing up whether to start crediting to QR Privilege Club or MH Enrich.
I will be flying Bangkok to Tokyo in the spring and have the option of JL, CX, or MH. The current economy fares I'd looked at for JL were S for outbound and Q on the return.
Under the QRPC chart, fare buckets L, S, and V will net 16 Qpoints, whilst G, N, O, Q, and Z net just 10. A total of 26 points is 8.66% to OWS.
Assuming MH credit both flights as Economy Zone 4 for a total of 12 points, that works out to ~17% to OWS.
I'm also looking at making a couple of return flights to the UK, which would typically be on QR metal flying BKK - DOH - MAN/LHR/EDI. If the fares are reasonable, I'll sometimes book business for the outbound and economy for the return.
A typical booking might be BKK-DOH-MAN in Business Classic (R) with the LHR-DOH-BKK return in Economy Classic (N, O, Q, T). Under QRPC, that would typically net 92 Qpoints (30.66% to OWS).
Based on my calculations for MHE, this same route would be credited as such:
BKK to DOH (3285mi) - Business, Zone 4: 10
DOH to MAN (3365mi) - Business, Zone 4: 10
LHR to DOH (3261mi) - Economy, Zone 4: 6
DOH to BKK (3285mi) - Economy, Zone 4: 6
Granting a total of 32 points for the return journey (45.7% to OWS).
Under QRPC, making two return flights to the UK alongside the trip to Japan, I'd net a total of 210 Qpoints which is still 90 away from OWS. The same flights under MHE would net 76 Elite points, surpassing the 70 needed for OWS.
The only other consideration is that QR awards Avios, which can easily be transferred and used between QR, BA, AY, IB, etc. I'm not familiar with Enrich points which makes it difficult to value, but from what I can tell a reward flight in business from BKK to the UK would be 138,000 points, whilst the equivalent flight with QR is generally 75,000 Avios.
Based on the three aforementioned flights, I believe I'd earn 18,686 Enrich points under MHE versus 27,043 Avios through QRPC. That said, I suspect the earnings for Enrich points would look a bit better if flying back to the UK with MH via KUL.
Assuming I've not missed anything in my assessment above, MH Enrich looks to be one of the best Oneworld loyalty programmes for earning status for my situation, but is potentially worse for mileage accumulation and award redemptions. Since it's generally a lot cheaper to buy miles than it is to buy tier points though, I'm not sure that's
too much of a concern.
