I believe I was able to pick a seat on a flight two decades ago so this doesn’t seem like something which should still be happening in 2025.
That hasn’t been my experience. Two weeks ago, I redeemed Avios for a last-minute MCT–BKK trip, admittedly in economy. I did need to contact BA to get the Oman Air PNR, but once I had it, I was able to select extra legroom seats (row 20) for both myself and my wife directly on Oman Air’s website.
I also called Oman Air’s Amsterdam office to change a separate cash booking — they were extremely helpful and handled everything smoothly.
