I am not an engineer or plane tech guy, but I saw that thread on A.net and a poster was saying that the IGW improvements will become "standard" on all planes manufactured from that point moving forward, and that airlines can just choose them to be de-rated (much like what SQ did with their 777-200ERs). No retrofit possible.
