It seems that the jury found AA 3/4s responsible, and the couple 1/4 responsible. We don't have all the details the jury had, but from what I can decipher from the two articles above is that they should have taken the initial symptoms (mini-stroke) on the ground in MIA more seriously and had their medical consultant evaluate them or at least a health care professional on board, instead of the captain. The second area of possible negligence is that they were not monitoring and/or responding to this passenger showing worrying signs during the TATL, and given that they were already alert to a possible problem.
