Does Amex even offer travel assistance anymore? That used to be a selling point, and they even had offices in a number of cities for this purpose. Now they don't really advertise that kind of thing and the focus is on discounts for Walmart membership. I wouldn't even think to call them for help, except to use travel insurance for airline delays.
I am able to organically use almost all of the prepaid discounts and sometimes the lounges (probably I use them <10% of the time I'm eligible because I don't have time or interest to wait 15-30 minutes for access because of overcrowding) so it's a fine value for me, but I don't think they intend to sell it as a premium product in any way at this point, unless I'm confused.
