Flew ZK-OXE last night AKL-WLG. Was surprised when some WhatsApp messages arrived and thought I’d neglected to select flight mode, but (interestingly) my phone had automatically and successfully connected to the wifi. I don’t recall an announcement on wifi availability, but was listening to a podcast following the safety briefing and so may have missed it.

Impressive speed, and I was able to easily stream Netflix (just a few minutes trial). Aircraft was full, and had been delayed over an hour. Suspect only a few devices connected.

Intrigued my phone connected automatically, as I have not flown on ZK-OXE since wifi was fitted. I had transferred from SYD-AKL and used the onboard wifi (789v1 ZK-NZF).
