As with many things there are pros/cons to everything. I am also a fan of 1A/L and 9A/L on the 789 (and 772, 77W) but I would say that the curvature up front does slightly reduce the space you have. On the flip side being away from the engines is a bit quieter, particularly on the 789 and 772.
Definitely a great seat for a transcon and it was nice being one of the first people off the plane. Can't have it all but don't think I'd choose this seat for a long haul where I need to sleep
