They really were! I hadn't had a red velvet cupcake in years either (I don't do a lot of sweets) and it was very enjoyable.
Overall my take on this place is very positive. Friendly folks at the desk (1 to 2 staff are usually onsite), and a very homey experience. Wifi is strong. Easy walk across the street to the Four Seasons (which has a great and honestly not-crazy-expensive bar there). Functional kitchen. Really like the old-school A/C thermostat--none of the cost-saving motion-sensor nonsense. You can set it to 65 and it will still be 65 when you come back.
As for the negatives:
-Water pressure in the shower isn't great, in part because of the giant shower head. If I stayed here for more than a few days, I would consider bringing my own shower head or something.
-Soundproofing vs the outside world isn't great, and there's a lot of ongoing construction outside. (That noise doesn't really bother me whereas I can't stand when I can hear the hotel hallway noise.)
-I like my unit, but I don't know how much variability there is. The unknown is probably the biggest negative. I would gladly stay in this same unit again.
-Parking. I was car-free this trip but there doesn't appear to be a good parking solution. The garage in the building is only open 9am to 5pm. There are other garages nearby. But staying here for several weeks (which I would absolutely consider if the need arose) seems impractical, with no easy way to keep a rental car at hand. Ubering around is fine but sometimes I need a car.
Long story short, I come to DC weekly Jan-April and I'm considering using this instead of hotels.
