In simple terms, BA does not have enough serviceable long-haul aircraft. There are approximately seven 787s parked up awaiting new engines or substantial engine components. On top of that there are various significant checks falling due on A350s, A380s and a need to release 787s for club suite fitment as well as supplementary engine checks. Finally,, the 777-200ERs will need additional checks and work to keep them going up to the heavily delayed 777-9 delivery.
BA has programmed a substantial ramp up of Long-Haul flying from Summer 26 and that either needs all the 787 RR issues resolved or all the next batch of six new 787s delivered or some combination of the two but I suspect the New Year will bring further e-mails heralding schedule reductions for next Summer or maybe I’m just too cynical.
