I can see that happening. If the changes are true, 28 nights is a pretty low threshold for Gold. The comparable tier at Marriott for free breakfast (Platinum) requires 50 nights a year (before considering accelerated methods to status via credit cards).
Turns out, Gold breakfast may be safe. Over at USCardForums, they have uncovered some hidden graphics from the website listing the benefits for the Diamond Reserve Tier. Once of the graphics displays the benefits for all the other tiers, and the F&B Credit/Breakfast benefit still appears for Gold.
With the Gold tier requirements being reduced, I am sure the property owners are going to be thrilled.
