I think what UA is doing by announcing the changes earlier than the competition is brilliant on their part.
Based on what I see looking at Sunday's cancellations, regional flights are still taking the brunt of the cancellations. I wonder if this will hold as we get deeper into the FAA restrictions.
At a certain point -- if the side effects of partisan insanity continues to warrant >10% reductions -- you're going to start to see a spiral like COVID where less capacity drove less demand which drove less capacity.
Hopefully it never reaches the point but I'm getting less optimistic. A true doomsday scenario could be forcing airlines to cooperate on common routes (e.g.forcing AA to accept UA pax on ORD-DFW) to further reduce flights for n the. System but I don't see a way for us to get from here to there unless this drags on for a very long time.
