I agree with your point and for me this falls mainly under 'sucks to be you, poop happens, even to nice people'. However, I think the Marriott association allows one to elevate their expectations somewhat, especially if you are leveraging their loyalty/points scheme. I'd argue that a points booking is a contract between you and Marriott and then Marriott and the property, so it really should be on Marriott to resolve the issue as I would expect them to do if I reached out and contacted them as opposed to consulting the internet.
As for 'the right to seek redress'...please don't get me started on the Litigious States of America where everyone wants to take everyone else to court over whatever trivial matter that has somehow slighted them...is there any other country that has this mentality?
