Sorry to hear about your experience in Cairo - although
sadly this seems to be rather typical! I would love to see the pyramids, visit the museums and other sights, etc (Egyptology was my favourite topic in school!), but having read similar accounts to yours, the only way I’d do it is through a reputable tour company - I think this is the only way to avoid being mobbed by touts.

I’m in South Africa at the moment, about to head back to Cape Town for the last night of the trip!
