(Incidentally, this particular Freedom Flex started life as a Sapphire Reserve in Sept. 2016 until I changed it to Freedom Flex in summer 2021.) They showed that I’m eligible to product change to Chase Sapphire, Freedom Unlimited, or Slate, but not Sapphire Preferred.

I am 4/24, so really don’t want to apply new; especially since I likely won’t be eligible for a new SUB since Chase implemented PUJ. (Last time I got a CSP or CSR SUB was July 2021, but they seem to be enforcing “one per lifetime” now.)

It’s possible this is related to issues product changing between MasterCard and Visa cards, so maybe I need to product change to a Sapphire or Freedom Unlimited as a stepping stone, but then I will be stuck with that card for a full year before I can product change to Sapphire Preferred, correct?

Any other thoughts/guidance/ideas?
Two months later and, maddeningly, have not been able to make any progress on this at all.

Started with 3 Freedom Flex cards. No other personal UR cards. One CFF was originally a Visa Freedom opened in 2013. One was originally a CSR opened in 2016. And one was originally a CSP opened in 2021. All of them became a CFF more than a year ago.

No matter how many times I called, HUCA'ed, moved credit limits around, etc. no agent was able to PC any of the CFF cards to a card with an annual fee.

I tried changing one CFF (the one originally opened in 2016 as a CSR and changed to CFF in 2021) to a Visa Freedom to see if it needed to be a Visa card first. No luck. Could PC to other fee free cards but still not CSP. So I tried changing it again to no fee Sapphire thinking maybe it needed to be in the "Sapphire family" first. Now I cannot PC it to anything else at all. It's stuck as a no fee Sapphire and no one at Chase can tell me for how long.

One phone agent said he'd ask the backend team to send me a letter explaining why I couldn't PC to CSP. Laughably, all the letter said was "Based on our guidelines, we determined the switch you requested isn't available." Apparently no one is able or willing to share what those "guidelines" are.

Does anyone have any insight at all into what may be going on here???
