Manage to solve this! Booking.com or whoever takes care of their flight bookings was useless. They just kept sending me the info that they are still working on my request. So I took matters in my own hands and contacted AM via WhatsApp. Quick response and managed to convince the cs agent that I had the right to rebook to the MEX-LAX flight and skip going to GDL. This was a fair outcome in my opinion.
