Or is it a bit like when you first go to the US and the border control officer takes your photo and fingerprints, then after that they just ask you to look into the camera on next visit? You don't need to do anything before flying, if EES is in effect at BCN when you arrive you'll just need to register when you get there. This is different from ETIAS, discussed elsewhere, that will require pre-authorization similar to ESTA before flying at some point in the future.
