Posting this here, as it's a more on topic than where I originally posted in hopo hopo.

I saw U availability on a long haul flight that I was waitlisted on. Called in and agent ticketed the upgrade. I asked why it didn't automatically process, and she said something about a schedule change. I had confirmed the schedule change on AY's app long ago. I only received the upgrade because the U was publicly available and I saw it. If the waitlist queue had more people than the U availability, I would have been passed by for the upgrade and never had known.

I have another waitlisted long haul on the same ticket. I'm traveling with a family member, split the ticket, gave her the last publicly available upgrade several months ago, and put myself on the waitlist. After T-30 but before I caught the issue with my ticket, I watched J availability decline from 8 to 3. Who knows if I was passed by for the upgrade. Maybe that's why AY won't make waitlists public, like other airlines do. Folks could see the broken IT in action...

I am beyond pissed about this. The waitlisted flight was all 9's in business fare buckets for months. No one in the PE or Y bulkheads for months. The schedule change happened shortly after ticketing, so if U space was released to the waitlist prior to T-30, I probably missed out on the upgrade.
