Booking a room for others
We are taking a cruise in Feb with some cruise friends who traditionally stay at a Choice Hotel property near the port, and we agreed to join them there. I have been a Choice member for years but have not stayed with them in years as we prefer a few other hotel chains. I am a Gold member. had points to book our room with some left over and offered to book a second room for our friends using my leftover points and $$ since I would probably not ever use those points.
When I made both reservations months ago I added a note giving the name of the couple who would be in the other room. I hadn't done a double booking in years - and never with Choice, so I don't know the procedures - if there are any.
I didn't worry about it until the other couple called the hotel and were told there was nothing indicating they would be using that reservation and basically they would have to wait until we showed up before they could check in. We will be there several hours after them - so that's inconvenient.
Today I called the hotel direct to see if there was something/anything I could do to make this work. On top of not being able to understand the young lady on the phone, the background noise was so loud I couldn't hear or understand much of anything she said. I did hear he say she understood and would I hold please - which I did, three different times. The last time when the screeching music finally stopped I could hear people at the desk talking. I kept saying "Hello" and she finally came back on the line and apologized but again I couldn't hear or understand anything. At that point I told her I gave up, I couldn't hear her (she acknowledged that it was very noisy), that this shouldn't be a difficult ask, and I was disappointed and ended the call.
Looking at the Choice website trying to send them a message, none of the reasons fit and it wouldn't let me proceed.
I will probably try and call again some other time.
But I thought I'd come here and see if the experts have any advice on how best to get this resolved. If the answer is that I booked both rooms and I need to be there for them to give out the keys - so be it - I just need to know that and I'll tell our friends to adjust their arrival accordingly if they can.
Thanks in advance.
