2- Once you receive the FFCs after your cancellation, you can extend the expiration dates by booking other non-refundable flights that are not basic economy, waiting for 24 plus hours and then canceling these tickets. The new FFCs will have a new expiration date which will be one year from the issuance of the new tickets you just cancelled. Worked for me.

Right, this was my understanding as well but then I thought I saw some data points that the rebook and cancel trick wasn't working reliably anymore ,but that could be inaccurate. As long as I could push this into a fly by next Dec or Jan I would be fine, so I would need a year from my trip date , not the purchase date which would be a month too early .
