I also raced through the check out at 12am JST on the dot and managed to secure the saver awards for the afternoon fight. Skipped all optional fields, including seat selection (you can select seats later). I noticed for JFK the afternoon saver flights would get always get booked first while the early morning AM flights would still be available for a while.
It also took me a few practice rounds before the date that I wanted to familiarize myself with the booking flow and see what fields could be skipped. Come the days of, I was fortunately able to snag F saver seats for the dates that I wanted between HND and LAX. For the days that I was practicing, those seats would reliably disappear within the first few minutes after midnight JST.
