A "soft landing" implies that you are eased down a level.
To go from Platinum (4th level) to Silver (2nd level) would therefore not appear to be a soft landing at all; the only 2 logical outcomes for a Platinum in a system offering Soft Landings would be:
- Platinum -> Platinum (for those who DO meet the Platinum requalification thresholds)
- Platinum -> Gold (for those who DO NOT meet the Platinum requalification thresholds)
If you went from Platinum to Silver (rather than, say, to Blue or to Gold) because - although you missed the Platinum requalification thresholds, you did enough A3/OA sectors & Tier Miles to qualify for Silver - then that would suggest you got Silver because you "earned" it, so again it wouldn't be considered a Soft Landing.
I'm not sure what you mean by running Platinum "parallel" to Gold; Platinum is a new level above Gold. Just like you can move up from Blue to Silver and up from Silver to Gold, in future people will be able to move up from Gold to Platinum. You're moving up (or down) a single-spine ladder; there is no parallelism involved.
