I can't believe these things are still around. They've got to be hitting 30+ years old by now. To add insult to injury, these are not inexpensive routes (no wonder given the fuel burn of a 50-seat plane).
To that end, you might not be terribly surprised to hear that some 50-seater markets are among the highest RASM routes in the system. SkyWest and GoJet are continually inducting more CRJ-550s so hopefully your home market gets that sooner rather than later.
United has said the plan for the late 2020s and into the 2030s calls for about 100 single-cabin RJs systemwide, which will be about a 40% reduction from the current composition. Many are already starting to age out, mercifully, and the long term plan will to have them in the smallest, shortest-haul markets going forward.
