I vote LAX.

If based in the western US, I wouldn't pick any other UA hub if I could use SFO or LAX. Polaris lounge a minor consideration. If you hate Polaris SFO so much (I personally find it consistently disappointing), consider using MLL instead.

Yes, not even close. ORD late afternoon departure to the continent is the jet lag misery special (at least for me). The inbound experience with T5 terminal transfer is also not great.
