People who’ve had China visa before silent policy change circa 2018-20 are usually able to renew, as in grandfathered. New applicants are denied. As I’ve mentioned before, I know a US-HKer family with 1940s-born mother able to renew visa because she had one before, while her 1970s born daughter not able to apply first-time and had to navigate the Lüxíngzhèng process with mom’s help filling Chinese forms and recognize her name called in Mandarin from the window.
