,,,,if you are afraid they are incompetent, or risk-averse, there is no real solution. During my BKK-CAN CAN-AMS trip I made sure I had prints of the Chinese visa centre or the like with all the rules, showing I was entitled to fly in from Thailand and out to a 3rd country (NL) while spending a day or 2 in Guangzhou. The Airasia staff frowned at first and I had to explain, but that was it. The link I copied in a previous post is clear enough (again assuming the Chinese see a flight to TPE as something to another country).
