If you're not super flexible this is really the answer. Most of the time the AA redemption rates are on transcon are nutty compared to cash rates. And if you're willing to roll dice for a cheap fare, just buy economy and check frequently T-10d to T-20h for a cheap buy-up offer in the app. They usually come
