I am thinking of flying JL39 to DEL (4:00p arrival), then connecting to UL169 (6:45p dep) as separate tickets & PNRs.

2h45m should be fine if JL denies the request, and I need to clear customs. Hopefully, even in that case, they still check any bags through.

(The other way, UL195’s 5:45p arr to JL30 @ 7:05p is tight, so looking at a 4:15a arrival on UL191 and spending 12 hours landside until JL’s counter in DEL opens.)
So, had to change my plans to fly through, so went through BLR, not Delhi.

Having said that, I did try to do the transfer at BLR, but the JAL staff at NRT said that it was not possible to check my bags through, the system (TIMATIC?) was apparently telling them that all passengers needed to collect their bags in BLR, so I decided to just drop trying the airside transfer attempt altogether.

I was therefore surprised to see a staff member on the BLR aerobridge holding a sign calling for passengers by name who were apparently travelling on to CMB via the same UL flight I was taking 2h45m later. (I expect these were passengers with single tickets, not sure if / how exactly the policy & process differed in their case.)

All was fine for me, though: I got my bag within 10minutes of clearing immigrating and was checked in to my next flight and through security with nearly 2hrs remaining, spent the time in the lounge.
