I've run my passport through several passport checkers & they all appear to confirm that my passport is still valid for travel to Norway. Below is what the FCO have to say;
Passport validity requirements
Norway follows
Schengen area rules. Your passport must:
- have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive – if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago
- have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area (the expiry date does not need to be within 10 years of the date of issue)
I have never heard of anyone adding 9 months - this is definitely the first time. When I renewed my BNO many years ago at the British Embassy at Copenhagen (the lovely Schegen visas + others took up all the pages on my not expired passport) way before it was expired, they only allowed me to add like a month or so. To make things worse: my damn passport wasn't machine readable - that part was blank!!!!!!! Fortunately, I didn't need all the months as I was naturalized as a Danish citizen before it ran out and I had to renounce my "so called" British Citizenship.
My guess is that they disregarded your passport expiry date and assume that it is 10 years after the day you got it. It's the DYKWIA check-in people behaviour - when we were flying to Hong Kong from CPH many years ago, we were often asked where our visas were in our passport. We said EU citizens can visit visa free for 90 days. When I was using my BNO passport to go back, they asked for a visa and despite I showed them my HKID they were still hestitant and quite a few times they had to call their supervisor.
They could see EVERYTHING on IATA Timatic and still they had to make it an ordeal. They should have let you through because it showed that the passpot has to be less than 10 years old.
A bit off topic: 2 years ago at the Lufthansa check-in people at CPH asked me to show them my ESTA approval and negative result of Covid test (I deleted my app a long time before that as more tham 80% of the world was open). I literally said to her that there is no more Covid requirement and I have deleted my app. Then she said, "it's ok". I'm sure they have a way to check the info somewhere but somehow they preferred bothering us. Last year with LH again: I bought a UA regular economy ticket and at check-in they said I had to pay for checked bags - I showed them my original ticket and of course they didn't believe what I showed. Once again, supervisor was called and then he came and said a bunch of crap and then left. Then the check-in agent told me, "we will waive your bag fee this time". I told her "We bought regular economy tickets so we are entitled to check 4 bags in (1+1 with our *G). She then said, "you don't have to pay for your bags as we have waived the fee". ....
I knew about this so I had our ESTA approvals screenshot and saved it on my phone in case they are trying to demand them.
