Some people (myself included) are like you and generally prefer to stick with the original airline/alliance, but others want to get there ASAP. The agent can't see inside your head. I got auto-rebooked from KL to OS few months ago - I gave them a call, told them it won't work for me and asked to be rebooked on SK/AF combo. They obliged with no issues.
For this case, I do asked them to rebook me to LH, since I do have an appointment in BUD. However what I in fact did not know, was the stand-by status of the new issued LH ticket.
