Quick one night stay

Quick one night stay in Standard Queen room on 5th floor to use an expiring FNA (and collect a new brand). Checked in at 2pm on a Saturday. Check-in via terminal which didn’t work and needed a staff member to process check-in (same as the couple at the next terminal). No upgrade (only an Explorist) so not expected, although this is the first stay in Australia that I haven’t received some sort of upgrade (even at the PH Syd). No online check-in or check-out through the Hyatt App. Found that a bit unusual given the push to use terminals for check-in.

Room exactly as pictured on the website. Small but very well appointed and everything in perfect working order. Comfortable bed, ample seating and good quality towels. Room faced back lane. Very quiet and rooms actually have pretty good noise insulation. No complaints about the room provided you are prepared for the small size (especially the bathroom).

Woken at 6:45am by a fire alarm. Multiple announcements but was only a false alarm so the hotel didn’t evacuate although some confusion amongst some guests (roaming in the corridor in pyjamas). Pretty annoying and prevented a sleep in but overall wasn’t too bad. Location okay. Quick walk to Chinatown and Surry Hills (my local neighbourhood).

Breakfast in Talk Shop pretty good. Order through a QR code. Decent quality and value. Main course of choice, coffee, juice, fruit plate and mini croissant for $32 AUD. Barista made coffee which was nice.

No offer of late checkout (through terminal or staff) but not required either.

Overall a decent option if the price is right. Rates were going for $350 AUD for a basic queen room when I checked the app a week before check-in. Okay value at $200 AUD but not worth more than that in my opinion given the size of the rooms and general location.
