Having credit cards and banking together or separate does nothing for me, legally they can't do anything different than if they were at different institutions. I didn't have all of my money in one bank, but I kept a pretty large sum at Chase, and had some significant investments with them as well. Mainly the reason for me to bank with them was the exchange rate they worked out for me when I was building my house in Mexico, that alone saved me roughly $15k. Then the ease to send money from my Chase accounts to my Mexican bank as needed or wanted with very low fees.

I could do similar things with other banks now as well, and that made this decision easy to move from them. But that initial rate they gave me was something I couldn't get anywhere else.

My reason for moving on is that the devaluation in the value of the points is too large for me to just forgive and forget. I don't want to give my money to someone that does that to me. They made money off me, even with me getting a good deal on that transfer that earned my business in the first place.

So, I don't want to say that my new card is going to be a great card for you, or for anyone else. My scenario is different (being a partner in a consulting firm) I had a business card with Chase, and the personal card. I have right now roughly 7,000,000 CSR points which is way too many. The problem is I travel for work a lot, I'm not using points for work trips, and I have a lot of Hilton and Marriott points that are constantly losing value through devaluations as well. So when I do travel for pleasure, or for a personal obligation, I used to compare the best deal with points from my CSR, Amex, and Skymiles for the flights, and use my Hilton Honors or Marriott Points. I don't want to use CSR points to book a hotel, as I don't get any of my perks from my status then, and I don't earn points for the stay either. We use Amex for the majority of our business spend, but when we have spend that can't be done with Amex, my Chase card got used, so I racked up a lot of points.

Analyzing the points from the Chase spend for business is making the biggest difference for me. As the vast majority was earning 1%, the very rare hotel stay that didn't take Amex earned more, along with gasoline, but again that was pretty rare. We had some utilities that earned more as well.

So I created a spreadsheet with a breakdown of my spend over the past 3 years with both cards, and the points in those categories, and averaged it all out.

Doing two cards again with Capital One Spark, I will be earning 2cents worth of points on the majority of spend now on the business card which will be a net positive for me as before the majority of spend was earning me 1.6cents after combining points to my personal card.

Restaurants used to earn me 4.5 cents, now it would be 3 with the CSR, I will be stuck at 2 cents, but Costco, Costco Gas, my insurance company (that insures all 3 of my properties, cars, etc.... doesn't take amex, but they take Visa will get me 2 cents per vs. 1 with the CSR going forward, and what used to be 1.5.

I tried to look at as many cards as possible, but with me wanting to be able to combine points, and with the spend I have this was the best option for me after analyzing the different scenarios.
