More than likely, there is more to the story. On a 1 night stay, if you're checked out and then checked back in after night audit is run, there is no reason to do anything with the card since the room night and the appropriate charge to the card are already there and posted. If the check out/in happened before night audit, I could see how PEP and the auditor (c)would authorize your card multiple times (1 each). More than that and/or putting through multiple charges is pretty incompetent which considering the state of the industry and the training (or lack thereof) one gets, I'm surprised but not surprised at your experience.
