The funny thing about that story is, if you do immediately re-check-in a reservation that you just checked out with PEP, PEP will not authorize or charge your card or do anything on its own. The next time night audit is run, PEP will automatically reauthorize (not charge) your card for the room/tax/incidental hold for the remainder of the stay. Anything past that requires human intervention.
So for a 1-night stay… their explanation is BS.
