How this all relates back to the OP topic is that United is not in a position to raise PQP any further. People who actually care about low-tier status are becoming increasingly aware of alternative methods to achieve essentially the same real-world benefits with a much lower bar for entry in time/effort/money as is, so how could UA conceivably raise thresholds against that level of friction?
Wishful thinking, and I wish it were so. In reality, UA has all the info, and it is probably at some level a balancing act of how many accounts can GS properly service (and the cost of that) vs what different spend requirements would mean in terms of enrollment.

And moving the PQP's , that are not used to reach a statuslevel, over to the next year. (from 30000 the 2000 not used for 1k )
Because the obvious increase in people qualifying for booking family members and colleagues.

I suspect it makes some people happy, and doesn’t really tip people into another tier. UA knows how to do this and designs the starter points accordingly.

I feel like UA is already holding the line more than others (like Delta…), but ultimately it comes down to what makes them money…
