In my opinion, if I reserve a specific class above mid-size or full-size, that’s what I should be driving. The class of vehicle I reserved. Hopefully you got a discount with that Tacoma rental.
And, also in my opinion, if I book full-size and play the aisle game, and the aisles is full of Malibus — I’m not entitled to anything else, regardless of whether I stomp my feet or play the “I’m Executive Elite! I demand a BMW!” card.
