I haven't read into details of the insurance coverage, but one thing they stressed about the advantage of Platinum card, is that with Platinum you don't need to use the card to pay for your travel, while Gold you need to pay something like 70%(? Don't remember for sure) of the travel expenses in order to be eligible.
