What are my rights? Should BA put me on another airline? I do realise they have not extended their policy of moving passengers to LY
Many thanks
If BA have provided you with more than 2 weeks notice then no compensation is due, but right to care, if it is relevant, can still apply. If BA have offered a same day alternative then that has met the usual understanding of what they can offer. If this is not acceptable, BA will usually offer at least alternative dates - either within a few days of the original booking so long as there is space on one of their services, or over a much wider time period if there is space in your fare bucket. You can alternatively have a full refund if the delay to the same day service is more than 5 hours, as surely applies here. If you rebook yourself on to another airline in order to stick more closely to the original timeline then the risk is on you, and the same day alternative is usually considered an acceptable way forward, so I would not be advocating this approach. So it may be a case of refund and self rebook is the best option if you have to leave on that particular date.
