The message I was responding to was saying that they'd think about using the train rather than taking the connecting LHR-MAN flight due to the current issue with domestic arrivals. Assuming the LHR-MAN flight was on time, a delay of 20 minutes at MAN is better than having to shlep across London to take a train. And Avanti aren't exactly known for their OTP (I make a pretty penny on their automatic delay refunds).
There are a lot of different use cases all presenting at once here.
For some people one thing will be better, for others, not so much.
I am 100% sure that just taking what you are given isn't the best option.
