Exactly. It is with a SAME DAY D1 ticket - you are allowed lounge access for the entire journey based on that D1 LAX-JFK ticket.

That lounge manager was making up rules... especially the bs about it requiring an international ticket to get in.
I hope the OP submitted a complaint to Delta about the experience.
