I have fond memories of the BA 747 upper deck corner window seat.
The responses were as expected:
1. People like the seats - I will say that those are in the minority and is mainly due to the open sleeping space (no cubbyhole) and more comfortable seat. While I acknowledge those pros, the outdated tech, no storage space, exposed aisle seats, and awkward tray table negate those pros.
2. Polaris - The rollout took forever (7 years) and flyers were highly critical on the slow rollout. On the other hand, United has record profits, consistent product, and no expensive retrofits for likely the next 5 years. BA should learn from that and recognize that there are major benefits to having the CS rollout completed.
3. Plane Capacity - I disagree on this being a major factor. The winter season is generally slower and is where I would expect the rollout to be taking place. If they want to keep a sub-fleet with these older seats then I can understand, but they went the UA route and want fleet consistency and market themselves as a premium carrier. Caveat - The A380's not being updated is valid as there was questions about the life span of those frames.
Full disclosure - I have a similar gripe with VS and the fact that their coffin seats are still flying. VS announced plans to update those seats, but their fleet is far smaller than BA.
