"Session timed out" is their security blocking you.
As an experiment, try another browser that has no security features enabled (i.e. "allow all cookies", no "cross site protection", no adblocks, basically be the dumbest possible web user you can be). In my case, this is using Safari in default configuration (not my usual browser). It might just help.
Thanks! I think that's what is going on.
I tried all of the above with nothing changing. I eventually called SAS and finally reached a person. I was told to wait 2 days with no searches because (it sounded like) I may be blocked due to my trying to search.

I was further told to let them know I have problems booking and that they will waive the telephone booking fees. Hopefully it doesn't come to that because calling in to do award searches while planning a trip is extremely frustrating for everyone.
