It's also easier to be more flexible with older aircraft - fly the crap out of them in the summer, park them in the winter
AA's route map also doesn't benefit as much from increases in efficiency. JFK/PHL/CLT-Europe is short enough that the efficiency benefits of a new aircraft aren't greatly offset by the Capex.
