Once registered in principle you then just go to the e-gates from then on, as mentioned above. However during the phase-in period, with a mix of manual operations and stampings, then it would not surprise me if people are all directed to the EES kiosks repeatedly, unless they explain they have registered already.
I’m wondering about that because when I registered last week the machine asked me questions that were specific to that trip, eg purpose of visit, date I’d be departing, etc.
So without any other knowledge, to the average traveller it must seem like you’re registering for that arrival / that trip. Similar to some other countries where all arrivals have to answer a set of questions either digitally or paper form.
There was nothing on screen or on signage that suggested it was a once off for your first EU/Schengen visit.
